About the choirThe choir performs one half of each concert, and tackles both mainstream and less familiar works in the Western repertoire, ranging from pioneering music such as Peter Louis Van Dijk's San Gloria and specially commissioned works such as Paul Jeanes' Hodie Christus Natus Est, to cornerstones of the choral repertory such as Handel's Messiah, Allegri's Miserere and Mozart's "Great" Mass in C minor. Most recently, the choir has given a triumphant performance of Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem in the Winter Gardens, Bournemouth, in the summer of 1999, and an acclaimed reading of Durufle's Requiem to a sell-out audience at Christchurch Priory in the summer of 2000. The choir now looks forward to working with its new conductor, Edward Lewis. New membersThe choir is always keen to recruit new members. Membership is open to anyone with a decent ability to sight read and commitment and enthusiasm. The rehearsals are usually in the fortnight before each concert, and held in the Bournemouth area. About Edward LewisEdward is currently in the third year of his degree in Music at Pembroke College, Oxford, where he is heavily involved in the musical life of the college, both as a singer and as an organist. A keen singer himself, Edward features in many of the top chamber choirs in Oxford, and looks forward to directing Gli Amici's choir in performances of diverse works from across the choral repertoire. |
